Improving road safety and traffic flow for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists is one of our goals in support of the Service priority and commitment to safe communities and neighbourhoods.

This initiative is part of the City of Toronto - Vision Zero Road Safety Plan. Vision Zero is a comprehensive five-year (2016-2021) action plan focused on reducing traffic-related fatalities and serious injuries on Toronto's streets. The plan prioritizes the safety of our most vulnerable road-users, through a range of initiatives.

The Toronto Police Service will be launching its annual back-to-school campaign entitled “Are you FOCUSED on school?” (Frequent Offences the Community and road Users See Every Day), starting Tuesday, September 5, 2017 and concluding on Friday, September 8, 2017. This back-to-school initiative will focus on road-users who put children at risk as a result of their poor driving habits.

All police officers and Parking Enforcement Officers will pay attention to motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians who commit offences in the vicinity of school zones, including offences related to pedestrian crossovers, crosswalks, intersections and high-risk mid-block crossing behaviours. Enforcement will also target aggressive driving offences, prohibited turns, and distracted driving behaviours, along with “No Stopping” and “No Parking” restrictions within school zones.
