Public advised to allow extra time to get around with busy summer weekend ahead in Toronto

City of Toronto Media Relations has issued the following:
==========================================

News Release:  July 17, 2014

Public advised to allow extra time to get around with busy summer weekend ahead in Toronto

With the Honda Indy, Blue Jays games, concerts and other special events planned for Toronto this weekend, it's going to be busy. Residents and visitors are encouraged to come out and enjoy these events – and to make their travel plans with the awareness that there could be some delays for drivers.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to consider taking public transit, and to allow extra time to get to and from their destinations in the city whether driving or taking public transit.

Festivals and other special events are important to the city, injecting hundreds of millions of dollars annually into Toronto’s economy and contributing to residents' and visitors' enjoyment of what the city has to offer.

Note: A City of Toronto news release issued earlier this week on weekend road closures included an item about a road closure for this weekend's Live Green Toronto Festival. The date mentioned in that item was incorrect. The festival and related road closures – Yonge Street from Edward Street to Queen Street – will take place on Saturday, July 19 from 6:30 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. Bay Street is an alternative route for motorists.

A complete list of events and road work is available at http://www.toronto.ca/torontostreets/.
