Mural unveiling at The Esplanade Basketball Court

Bonjour,

The police chase and subsequent vandalism that damaged both basketball court and mural on The Esplanade in July 2013 was, to me, the perfect opportunity for our community to come together around a creative project.

Off we started, a year ago, planning what brings us to the beating heart of The Esplanade this Saturday at 2pm: the unveiling of our new mural on the basketball court.

From finding amazing artists Elisa (Shalak Attack) Monreal and Julian Periquet to partnering with the ESP Community Group and St Lawrence Community Recreation Centre; securing support from StreetARToronto and Proaction Cops & Kids; consulting with community members on mural design ideas; running a three-month workshop with sixteen youths; and planning the unveiling of our very first mural project... it's been one big adventure we're looking forward to share with you.

Congrats to Edan, Jennaiya, Mumina, Yossef, Farid, Anthony, Tyson, Raecheal, Karen, Nada, Afnan, Hanna, Noel, Delina, Yasmin and Molly for their creativity and dedication to the making of this mural.  Unveiling celebration is accompanied with Robert Graham's The Fairest and Best (music), Rated-X Dance Crew, and a photo exhibit opening.

I am very much looking forward to seeing you this Saturday, at 2pm, at the court. Bring your family, neighbors and friends along.

A project co-produced with CORPUS, and supported by the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
